JEC XJS Championship - Cadwell Park 7th July 2007:
Steve Davis was never headed as he collected double win in the Toyo Tires Jaguar XJS encounters.
Davis had to survive early pressure from Derek Pearce and Steve Avery in race one, as defending champion Gail Hill and John Lock duelled for fourth. But Avery slipped from contention with two spins on lap four, before Pearce started to lose his brakes and slipped behind Hill and Lock into fourth. Hill managed to shake off Lock to consolidate second. Pearce then crashed at the Gooseneck and brought out the red flags. Matthew Skelton worked his way through to complete the top four, from Mark Russell and Lawrence Coppock.

The XJS's were also equally entertaining with their double header, here once again, Derek Pearce of Thornton Heath was on pole, Steve Davis of Bucks 2nd and great to see Steve (sideways) Avery of Surrey 3rd. There were 21 cats on the grid for this first race and when the red lights went out Stuart Lyddall stalled thus causing mayhem behind which resulted in Phil Taylor and Paul Reynolds colliding and the races were over before they had begun. Up front and Davis had nipped ahead of Pearce. Avery was still 3rd, lovely Gail Hill of Oxon was 4th and the ever impressive John Lock of Yiewsley was hot on there heels in 5th. On lap 3 Gail tried to pass Avery on the straight, her V12 against his straight 6 sport was a wonderful sight, on lap 4 Avery pushed too hard and spun, dropping back to 13th.
Stuart Lyddall on lap 6 came into the pits, he had been running in 8th place, his reason for pitting was that he was getting 'car sickness'. I told you this track punishes the drivers too!
There was nothing between Davis and Pearce until lap 6 when Derek had a spin dropping back to 4th then later found he had bent his XJR-S and that was his racing over for the weekend. Davis took a comfortable race win and Class G with Gail Hill 7 seconds behind taking 2nd, Class D winner John Lock was 3rd. Jaguar World Monthly editor Matt Skelton also had a brilliant race starting 6th and finishing 4th ahead of Mark Russell of N. Ireland in his V12.
Further down the field there was a 3-way tussle between Roger Webster of Lincs, Class E winner Paul Merrett and Dave Ball of Coventry. Once again there was some very close racing and when they crossed the finish line only 2 seconds separated all three for 13th,14th and 15th places respectively.
John Griffin of Coventry and Andrew Harrison of Rotherham finished 9th and 10th with only 0.2 of a second gap, the spectators loved it!
