JEC Powered by Jaguar Championship - Donington Park 4th June 2006:

Donington Park, J24 on the M1, was the setting for another round of Jaguar racing at its best. And what a massive day of racing we were privileged to witness on a beautifully sunny day that was coupled by a nice cool breeze that wafted around this twisty and fast 1.9 mile circuit.

The first race was the Powered by Jaguar that had 15 cars on the grid. Thornton Mustard of Lydford was on pole with his 1959 D-Type, Kevin (hannibal) Doyle with that black beast imitating an XJ Coupe was second even after completing only 6 laps in qualifying due to fuel pump problems and then his engine bay caught fire to boot, as an electric lead arced causing a short, Kevin laughed it off and had his car up and running for the race. Steve Davis in his XJS was third.

When the red lights went out it was Thornton who was quickest into the first bend at Redgate with Steve Davis and Kevin Doyle in tow but on lap 2 Kevin passed Steve who went very wide at Redgate, they stayed this way for a few laps with Thornton opening quite a lead but Doyle started to reel in the D-Type and by lap 7 had closed the gap down to less than 2 seconds. However Kevin pushed a little to hard and spun at McLeans on lap 9 losing two places thus finishing the race in fourth place. Steve Davis then took the race to Mustard and hounded Thornton to the end, they both crossed the chequered flag with a gap of 0.183 seconds. Mustard took race and Class C win, Davis was second and Class E winner.

Graham Paddick in his Kougar Jaguar fought hard with Allan Glover in his Luego-Jaguar Viento to keep him at bay, they kept swapping places but Allen would be the victor for 5th place and Graham taking 6th and Class B win.

Elsewhere there was an almighty rumble between Chris Palmer (X-300), John Arnold (D-Type), Lawrence Coppock (XJS) and James Ramm (XJS). They were going like the four horsemen of the apocalypse and as they crossed the finish line only 1 second separated then finishing 10th to 14th respectively, they were the nuts!
