JEC XJS
Championship - Brands Hatch 13th August 2005:
This was a weekend to remember with racing taking part over two days here at Brands Hatch in deepest Kent and the weather also came in two parts, as it stayed nice and dry for the XJS races but poured down for the Saloons and the Millers Oils races on both days.
Race 1
It was the XJS that were first on the card, Derek Pearce was on pole with Gary Davis 2nd and Sean Collin 3rd.
When the red lights went out the red mist set in, as thirty Cats charged into the first bend, but just when it looked like every one was safely through the second bend at Druids, championship and class D leader Gail Hill and David Weaver touched, causing both cars to spin and finish up in a dangerous position on the track. The race was red flagged until the track could be cleaned up.
When the race was restarted Gary Davis got the edge on Derek Pearce and held him off until on lap 5 Derek's diff shattered and all drive disappeared. Steve Davis was then left to chase Gary but he had to settle for 2nd place with Gary taking race win, Class G and fastest lap (56 seconds). Sean Collin was 3rd and Class E winner. Kevin Doyle did very well to finish 4th after starting 11th.
Driver of the race went to Cliff Ryan when he started at the back of the grid and carved his way through the field to finish a brilliant 8th.
Sam Clarke had a nightmare race when he couldn't get above 3000 revs, better luck next race. There were also some fine battles elsewhere in the race with 13th place Stuart Ulph and 14th Lawrence Ball, only 1 second separating them, Dexter Dimblebee and John Griffin, 0.5 second gap and Simon Seath and Dave Robbie, 0.6 second gap. Other Class winners were Gerald Webb (D) and Gordan Bobic (F).
