Zandvoort - 26th September 2004:

In recognition of the standard of JEC racing this year, the Zandvoort Historic Racing Association invited us to put on a race at this historic meeting. Accordingly, 8 XKs, 9 XJS, 2 Listers, 2 D Types an E and a Kougar made the journey to the outstanding ex-F1 circuit. A challenging 2.6 mile circuit threading through the sand dunes is very popular with drivers.

Practice saw Wellhausen (Lister) take pole from an inspired Gary Davis(XJS). The Ottley XK120 dropped an oil hose, which saw some surprised followers struggling to control their cars. At the form up the organisers saw fit to put 7 Triumph TRs on the back of the grid which surprised Jaguar drivers when they suddenly found themselves lapping other cars. They must have thought they had caught up with the last race!

From the start the Wellhausen Lister drove into the distance to win by 37 seconds from the similar car of Wilkes. Gary Davis harried Wilkes for 2 laps before a hub nut failure brought retirement after a heart-stopping moment. Steve Davis took up the challenge for 5 laps until a headgasket failure on the XJS brought retirement in a cloud of steam. Derek Pearce brought his XJS home to a fine third place. The Doyle, Robin North XJS battle was outstanding spectator value and figured among many races. XK honours were taken by Arculus from the Groom special bodied car. Astley, Dewen (D Types) & Zoë North (XJS) fought mightily to finish in that order. The Woodbridge/Wilkins XK battle ended when the former slipped back with lack of gears.
