JEC XJS Championship - Snetterton 12th
June 2004:
Stewart Lyddall was the main casualty of this race
when on lap 8 of qualifying a fuel pressure problem arose and he was doing a
Jerry Lee Lewis and had "Great Balls of Fire" shooting onto his windscreen
from the engine. On the grid of 28 cats, in pole, was Richard Masters, his first
race for about a year, Derek Pearce 2nd and Steve Davis of Beaconsfield 3rd.
When the red lights went out the first 2 cars were leap-frogged by 3rd and 4th
Davis and Doyle. Steve led till coming out of the chicane on lap 2 where
immense pressure from Kevin Doyle forced Davis onto the kerb and took the lead.
Davis suffered exhaust damage but still gave chase until lap 6 when he pulled
into the pits. He must have found a "Kwik-fit" fitter because he was
back out by lap 9. Alas it was to late as Kevin drove an awesome race to
fastest lap, Class G and race win. This was his first race of the season,
brilliant.
Richard Masters took 2nd and Class E and Derek Pearce was 3rd after falling
back & recovering. William Lynch took 4th but not before Dave Upton in the
last few laps really pushed Lynch all the way, it was a little to close for
comfort. Dave Ball of Coventry and Chris Boon had a proper scrap, with them
taking 15th and 16th respectively and 0.7 seconds gap at the line. There was
also a fantastic 4-way tussle for places 5 to 9 between Dave Upton, James Ramm,
Zoe North and Class D winner Sean Collins. Lawrence Ball qualified 19th and
finished an excellent 12th. Gordon Bobic was the Class F winner. 1st Kevin
Doyle, 2nd Richard Masters, 3rd Derek Pearce
