JEC XJS Championship - Lydden Hill 7th
August 2004:
Glorious "Costa Del Sol" weather shone
brightly over this vintage, twisty 1-mile track near the coast of Dover. The
roasting temperatures gave cars & drivers a severe test of endurance.
The only casualty of the morning qualifying session was unlucky Sam Clarke
whose engine blew after 10 laps.
As for the race, Derek Pearce once again was on pole, Steve Davis 2nd and
Stewart Lyddall 3rd. When the lights went out Pearce kept ahead of Davis until
back-markers got in the way on lap 7 and when Derek was inadvertently held up
Steve spotted a gap and took his chance taking the lead and never looked back
to take Class G and race win, Derek Pearce had to opt for 2nd and a Class E
win.
With big cats on a small track there were a few spinners but Simon Seath from
Eastbourne suffered the worst coming out of Devils Elbow, he ended up beached
on the grass verge and Laurence Coppuck went backwards into the tyre barrier
with minimal damge. Robin North took a well deserved 3rd from 8th on the grid
and Sean Collin was 4th and Class D winner. Paul Jocelyn-Brown was the Class F
winner.
